Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Q. My child is already enrolled in another center, but we are very interested in trying CBG. Can we switch?

A. This depends on class size and availability. Please call our office at 281-465-0899 for more information.

Q. What is the best age to introduce a child to a 2nd language?

A. The earlier, the better. Studies have shown that children who learn another language before the age of five learn with the same part of the brain that they use to speak their mother tongue. Younger children also are without inhibitions; and, therefore, they will speak naturally and with native-like pronunciation.

Q. What are the benefits of knowing a second language?

A. Many children derive benefits from early second language instruction, such as improved overall school performance, superior problem-solving skills, and more creativity. In addition, children generally experience increased self-confidence, ability to communicate better with others, and awareness of other cultures. Knowing a second language prepares students for life in a multicultural, multilingual world and can provide a competitive advantage in the workforce.

Q.  Is the curriculum flexible to allow for different levels of development?

A.  Yes. Crossing Borders Group recognizes that children learn at different levels and paces.  Crossing Borders Group is committed to growing each and every student to his or her fullest potential in every program level we offer.

Q.  Will the teacher speak in the new language the entire class?

A. Crossing Borders Group teachers make every effort to speak in the language being taught 100% of the time. However, we also want the children to feel comfortable in their environment and to be encouraged to love their new language. When a new student joins, commands are given first in the new language and then in their native tongue, as necessary. For those children who already have some knowledge or are fluent in the new language, Crossing Borders Group teacher(s) will make sure to challenge them.

Q. What languages do most of the parents speak?

A. Our parents come from a variety of background, but the majority of our students have American and English-speaking parents.

Q. Why do we have multi-age classrooms?

A. We advocate the multi-age classroom as the younger children can learn from the older students, while the older children benefit from teaching the younger students. Having a multi-age classroom also allows for more flexibility.
